Transitioning
The Call And he said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.’ Immediately they left their nets and followed him. Matthew 4:19-20 This account from the call of the disciples, which makes up part of this Sunday’s Gospel: Matthew 4:12-23, varies from the one that led us into the past […]

The Call
That plan for salvation includes an approval, just as the Father declared His approval of the Son at the Son’s baptism. The plan for salvation includes an inspection that leads to an approval. Over the past few years since I’ve been sharing these messages with you, I have come to realise that HEWing – the process of increasing our Human Effectiveness at Work – has been that process of inspection for approval.

Fulfilled
For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.’ Isaiah 2:6

The Warning
WARNING! Something heavy is going down. Watch out! A change is gonna come. Something’s gonna upset the applecart. Those who’ve been ignoring the call to turn around, those who’ve ignored the yellow, amber and even the red alerts are going to face the fire. Victory
Friends, wouldn’t you love to hear these words, ‘Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise’? Children of the Resurrection
Resurrection is no mean or easy feat. Resurrection, though, is the fruit of humility, perseverance, faith, yielding to the Potter’s heart, and living a life in praise and worship, as we’ve explored in earlier pieces. In short, resurrection is a process that can only be undertaken under the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Resurrection is a commitment and a personal choice. We must choose to live our lives in step with the will of God. Resurrection happens, then, when we choose purpose

Perseverance
Purpose requires persisting, continuing, standing firm notwithstanding the bleak or dismal circumstances around us, notwithstanding the (seeming) lack of success. Purpose requires us to stand, not on the substance of what we see but rather on the assurance of the promises of God.

Humility
The unfortunate truth, though, is that humility has been misrepresented. Humility has been despised. We have been turned away from humility. Why? It’s anyone’s guess, really. Perhaps it is because, somehow, because of the common root, humility has been mistaken for humiliation. If this is the case, then this confusion is unfortunate. Humility, you see, is founded in love; humiliation is founded in pride.

Knowledge is Power
It would seem, then, that the saying is true: ‘Knowledge is power’! My position, though, is that it depends on the knowledge being pursued. There is knowledge that is worldly – linked to things temporal, things passing, things that do not last – and there is knowledge that is linked to things eternal, things that do not fade away.
